This weekβs featured seal is the official seal of then Municipality of Pasig, adopted in 1994.
Pasig is one of the local government units whose official seal features a woman, commonly included to represent an ideal that the community strives to embody.
The seal prominently features a mermaid, which denotes Mutya ng Pasig, a legendary figure that is said to have inhabited the riverine waters of Pasig and appears during the full moon.
It sits above the landmarks that symbolizes the industrialization of Pasig, and includes the municipal building, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the Pasig Public Market with a twelve-storey revolving restaurant and various commercial buildings.
The waves below represent the Pasig River, a major waterway originating from Laguna de Bay and empties into the Manila Bay with a varied flow direction depending on the water levels on each side of the river.
Pasig was founded by the Augustinian Friars under the patronage of Immaculate Conception and is among the earliest established settlements since the arrival of Spaniards.
It became part of the Province of Rizal in 1901 by virtue of Act. No. 137 enacted by the Philippine Commission. Pasig separated from the province in 1975 to form part of Metro Manila and through Republic Act No. 7829 that it became a highly urbanized city.
